In a move to tackle obesity New York's mayor Michael Bloomberg has moved to ban the sale super size soft drinks.
Good for him.

from a recent documentary, i think they ought to ban all supersize portions of drink and food. To them, a bacon and egg sandwich consists of about 6 slices of bread, 15 rashers and 6 eggs, and 12 doughnuts for afters. and 2 gallons of said gut rot sugar loaded cola.

Ah but the cola does not contain sugar but high fructose corn syrup (HCFS) and therein lies the problem. This stuff makes people more hungry and less energetic.

sad though that we're now becoming like the states where everyone wants to stuff their faces and get a bargain, heart attack more like..
ughhh, and can't stand those soft drinks like cola, they never quench a thirst, it's like having having a mouthful of foam, disgusting stuff..

It's not about too much sugar, it's about making more tax revenue. A 44 ounce Big Gulp is $.99. A 16 ounce bottle of Coke averages just under $2. New Yorkers spend $350 million a year on sodas. With that said, people are still going to buy soft drinks with sugar when water is the same price if not higher. Very few habits will change, but tax revenue will more than triple.

As betterway says (sad to say) it is never about health benefits its always about revenue....all the rest is just smoke screens and bs.There is always a dirty deal going on in the background so lots of people can get rich.
And yes I agree the stuff is disgusting, and also highly addictive
